The Gunnison River, from 200 yards downstream of Crystal Dam all the way through Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park to the North Fork is designated Gold Medal & Wild Trout Water. This designation is given to the lakes and streams of Colorado that offer the greatest potential for trophy trout fishing.

Our Marinas Do Not Sell Fishing Licenses
1. Go to the website: www.wildlife.state.co.us and purchase your fishing license there. Print off the confirmation and carry that with you while fishing until your regular license arrives in the mail at which time you should carry your issued license while fishing. Day licenses are available also.
2. You can also purchase a fishing license over the phone by calling the toll free number: 1 800 244 5613. Write the confirmation number and data purchased on a piece of paper and carry it with you while fishing until your regular license arrives in the mail at which time you should carry your issued license while fishing. License is required for all persons age 16 and over.
3. Fishing licenses can also be purchased in Gunnison at Walmart or Gene Taylors. Additionally Gunnison Lakeside Resort, a 5 minute drive from the marina sells fishing licenses as well.

Fish Morrow Point Reservoir
Welcome to the head waters of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison! Morrow Point Reservoir is a Hydro-Dam located 11 miles down river from Blue Mesa Dam and is home to some of the most amazing fishing and scenery in Colorado. Guided fishing on Morrow Point Reservoir is available from mid May into September, only through Elk Creek Marina. We fish for Kokanee Salmon, Brown Trout, Rainbows, Lake Trout, Brookies, and a few kinds of Cut Throat’s. Catch em’ all in a day and it’s “MP Grand Slam”. This guided fishing trip can truly be a trip of a lifetime and is considered by most the “Best Fishing Tour” in Colorado.
